Efter att ha studerat filosofi, teologi och religionsvetenskap vid Lunds universitet och University of Cambridge, disputerade jag i Lund 2011 på en avhandling i religionsfilosofi, med titeln Figuring Flesh in Creation: Merleau-Ponty in Conversation With Philosophical Theology. I avhandlingen undersöker jag den franske filosofen Maurice Merleau-Ponty, i synnerhet hans antropologi, meningsfilosofi och ontologi, och relaterar dessa till den kristna teologiska traditionen som den kommer till uttryck främst hos Augustinus. Sedan 2013 arbetar jag vid Göteborgs universitet som universitetslektor i tros- och livsåskådningsvetenskap (dvs. systematisk teologi, religionsfilosofi och etik).
Läsåret 2022-2023 är jag gästforskare vid Duke Divinity School, Durham, North Carolina.
Forskningsprojekt
För närvarande driver jag två forskningsprojektet:
Ecological Ethics in a European Context: A Comparative Study of Bernard Charbonneau, Hans Jonas, and Erazim Kohák. Projektet har delvis bedrivits vid Rachel Carson Centre i München:
"The purpose of this project is to explore the thought of three intellectuals who have played a significant role in the development of a European environmental consciousness—Bernard Charbonneau (1910-1996), Hans Jonas (1903-1993), and Erazim Kohák (1933-2020)—but who tend to be rather neglected in contemporary discussions. Under the aegis of this project, I want to investigate both the ways in which they provide essential resources for the development of an ecological ethics in an era of climate crisis, and how a knowledge of their thinking is indispensable for everyone seeking to understand the development of the environmental movement in the European context.
Naturlig teleologi: den nya dialogen mellan religion och vetenskap i ljuset av självorganisation och evolutionär konvergens, finansierat av Vetenskapsrådet. Projektet ska mynna ut i en bok med arbetstiteln The Varieties of Purpose. Följande abstract ger en kortfattad beskrivning:
”This project will investigate the way in which teleological concepts have emerged within two new fields of biological science–self-organization and evolutionary convergence. Critically analysing these, and comparing them with other types of teleological concepts in theology, philosophy and ethics, the theoretical heart of the project will be the construction of a model of teleological concepts across different academic disciplines. In particular, the model will be able to accommodate the similarities as well as differences between natural and metaphysical teleology, between immanent and external teleology, and between consciously intended and non-conscious ends. In the final stage of the project, the implications of this deepened understanding of teleology will be investigated in the context of the science and religion dialogue, particularly concerning the question of what a human being is as both purposive and part of nature.
Through the development of a finely grained model of teleological concepts, the project will significantly contribute to overcoming longstanding impasses not only between science and religion, but also between natural science and the humanities. In particular, the relation between naturalized and religious concepts of teleology will be investigated, as well as the relation between the teleological concepts used in biology and the types of teleology at play in understanding human agency and ethics. Can these concepts co-exist or are they mutually exclusive? How would one relate them? What are the conceptual possibilities?”

Jag arbetar också med en bok på svenska om den kristna skapelseteologin och dess konsekvenser inom en rad olika områden.

Jag är bitr. handledare till Lottie Eriksson, som skriver om den franska filosofen Simone Weils etiska tänkande, och bitr. handledare till Fredrik Seltman, som utforskar den lutherska rättfärdiggörelseläran som en resurs för ekoteologin och etik.
