Bo Lindberg, Professor, History of Ideas and Science

Over the years my research has dealt with various aspects of "the use of Antiquity". I have written about the role of Latin, the history of classical scholarship and the reception of ancient political concepts and ideas during the early modern period. Some of my research can be characterised as conceptual history. My interests are evident from the list of my publications since 2006.

I am currently working on an edition of the lectures delivered by the famous natural law theorist Samuel Pufendorf at the beginning of the 1670s. These lectures are rewarding in terms of the history of ideas, but have also drawn my attention to the early modern academic lecture as an historical phenomenon. This, in turn, ties in with my long-held interest in the history of the academic thesis, an interest that has yet to be developed into a research project.
